Product description
This Portuguese earthenware pitcher rests on a molded annular foot, which provides a stable and elegant base. Its ample and well-proportioned baluster body rises towards a flared neck with a pinched pouring spout. The wide and comfortable ribbon handle is accented with a cobalt blue line that also runs along the rim of the neck and the foot. The decoration, entirely hand-painted, covers the entire surface in three distinct registers. On the neck, a bouquet of stylized flowers with elongated petals and finely veined leaves adorns the main side. On the body, two symmetrical floral compositions echo the same style, featuring five-petaled flowers and curved stems that entwine gracefully. The back of the neck bears a smaller, also hand-painted, motif. The beautifully intense cobalt blue contrasts with the creamy white background of the glazed earthenware. A frieze of small black dots marks the transition between the neck and the body. Height 20 cm. The base bears the handwritten inscription "Made in Portugal, Hand Painted," the model number 16, and the initials LM of the painter or workshop. In good general condition. Placed on a sideboard, a shelf, or a dining table, this pitcher brings the warmth of Portuguese blue and white to any interior. Light plays on the glossy enamel and makes the cobalt vibrate with a particular intensity.
