We are pleased to present this splendid oil on canvas painting from the first half of the 19th century. A beautiful portrait of a young woman.
A young woman of refined beauty is depicted half-length, turned three-quarters to the left. Her large blue eyes look directly at the viewer with a serene expression. Her skin is very pale, with a slight natural blush on her cheeks. In the 19th century, fair skin was essential for women to be fashionable and to assert their aristocratic social standing. Her brown hair is gathered in an elaborate hairstyle, with defined curls that perfectly frame her angelic face. She wears a dark red dress (in the Biedermeier/late Regency style) with a wide bateau neckline that leaves her shoulders bare. The sleeves are extremely wide and puffed, typical of the fashion of the 1830s. A thin gold chain hangs from her neck, sliding down the bodice of her dress.
The painting is of excellent pictorial quality, with delicate brushstrokes that blend seamlessly into the various hues. The warm tones of the dress contrast perfectly with the cold, dark background, highlighting the woman's figure. The background is also rich in subtle details: on the left, a dark curtain appears, while on the right, a soft natural landscape appears beneath a deep blue sky.
