Portrait miniature Tondo Napoleon II officer hand-painted gouache 19th century
Decorate your walls with a 19th-century portrait of Napoleon II, the "King of Rome" son of Napoleon I Bonaparte and Marie-Louise of Austria! The tragically ill-fated heir to his father's Empire, Napoleon's short life was marked by the anxiety of the European courts over the potential heir to the French Empire, his father having conquered a large part of Europe and abdicated kings and queens.
Trained as a soldier, the young crown prince is shown here in officer's uniform. During his exile in Austria, he took an interest in and trained for the military arts, but although he had a definite interest in the latter, it remained honorary only, and he exercised no military, diplomatic or political power, not for lack of interest but for lack of time.
In fact, the young prince died of tuberculosis at just 21 years of age, misdiagnosed and poorly treated by his doctors, but he nevertheless left behind an image of a prince with a tragic destiny, whose future could have been great. Following his death, much to the dismay of the Bonapartists, the Allies restored the monarchy with Louis XVIII as head of state.
This portrait is a tribute to this prince of Bonapartist blood, immortalizing his youth. The choice of gouache gives it a very luminous, pleasing rendering, protected by a curved glass case and enhanced by a black lacquered frame, and hung on a wall for display on your walls.
Don't wait any longer, and treat yourself to a portrait of the "King of Rome" Napoleon II that will appeal to young and old alike, lovers and collectors of 19th-century miniature portraits!
