This extraordinary lounge chair is the PK27 model, designed in 1971 by Poul Kjaerholm for E. Kold Christensen in Denmark. The PK27 is one of Kjaerholm's rarer pieces and was only produced for a short period until 1974.
This design combines Kjaerholm's clear design language with an unusually warm choice of materials. The supporting structure is formed by an elegantly curved seat shell made of laminated plywood and maple veneer, which rests on a base frame also made of molded bentwood with maple veneer. A characteristic feature is the ingenious suspension of the seat shell via elastic rubber elements, which provide a springy support and at the same time visually loosen up the construction.
The seat and backrest are fitted with a removable, precisely fitting cushion in soft, natural brown chamois leather, which picks up on the geometric lines of the shell and emphasizes them with its striking, criss-cross button stitching. The back of the armchair remains formally reduced and shows the high-quality maple veneer across its entire surface. The slightly reclined sitting position and the generous width of the shell give the PK27 a high level of comfort and a sculptural presence at the same time - typical of Kjaerholm's uncompromising combination of functionality and aesthetic precision.
Dimensions: L70 x W72 x H70 cm
Seat height 25 cm
The condition of the armchair is excellent. The wooden surfaces are very well maintained with only minimal, barely visible signs of wear. The chamois leather has been professionally reupholstered with great attention to detail, using high-quality materials and with great respect for the original workmanship. The rubber elements are fully functional and intact. Overall, the furniture is in excellent, ready-to-live-in condition with a museum-like appearance.
