This work, along with all close variations on the same composition type, represents the height of Mondrian's classicism. By this period the artist had achieved his n canonical neoplastic vocabulary, a radically reduced series of formal compositions consisting of straight black lines and planes of primary color or "non-color" (white, black and gray).
