A sculptural and highly recognizable lounge chair, designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort in the Netherlands in the 1960s. This model, known as the F444, reflects Paulin's innovative approach to seating, combining a minimalist steel structure with a flexible, body-conforming leather seat.
The chair features a taut black leather seat, elegantly suspended in a chrome-plated steel frame. The distinctive folded shape, emphasized by a striking central seam, creates a dynamic balance between structure and softness. The low, relaxed seating position enhances the lounge character, while the clean lines give the chair a strong architectural appearance.
This specific example comes from the original owner, who purchased the chair shortly after its introduction in the Netherlands. The original Artifort label is still present, and the chair is a fully authentic vintage example from the early production period.
The F444 is no longer produced, making original examples increasingly sought after on the second-hand market. The leather displays a beautiful, even patina with light signs of wear consistent with its age and use, contributing to the character of the piece. The chrome frame is in very good condition with only minimal signs of wear.
A refined and collectible example of Dutch design from the middle of the last century, equally suitable for modern interiors as for carefully curated design collections.
