This beautiful AP-14 "Anneau" chair was designed by Pierre Paulin.
It was manufactured by AP Polak in the 1950s. A second armchair in the same condition is available if you are interested.
The double metal tubular frames, connected with clips, hang from the canvas cover. A very rare and desirable piece.
The chair is in very good condition, with only minor signs of wear and age.
Pierre Paulin (1927-2009) was a French furniture designer influenced by Scandinavian aesthetics and American prefabricated design.
His background in sculpture and stone carving is significant, making his designs often opulent and expressive.
With the characteristic organic curves that recur in many of his pieces.
In 1954, he began a collaboration with Thonet. In 1958, Kho Liang Le, head of design at Artifort, hired Pierre Paulin—his designs are still produced by Artifort today.
Paulin said of his time at the company: "It was the first full expression of my capabilities. I found chair manufacturing rather primitive, and I tried to invent new processes."
With his great fame, he subsequently furnished the rooms in the private apartments of the Élysée Palace for Pompidou and designed François Mitterrand's office.
In November 2009, he was posthumously awarded the title of 'Royal Designer for Industry'.
