This is an iconic paperweight designed by the French biologist and artist Pierre Giraudon in the 1970s. The fascinating design, in which a seemingly floating light bulb is cast within a clear block, makes this object a beloved collector's item in the vintage design world. The sculptural piece is crafted from high-quality, transparent plexiglass in which a real glass light bulb with a striking green fluorescent core and a silver-colored metal fitting is encapsulated. In the 1960s and 70s, Giraudon perfected the technique of casting objects in resin and acrylic without air bubbles, resulting in a crystal-clear optical illusion. The sleek, cubist form of the block contrasts with the round, organic lines of the lamp inside. The object is in excellent vintage condition and has retained its original clarity. This Pierre Giraudon paperweight is a distinct statement piece that fits perfectly into a Pop Art or Space Age interior.
