Product description
A very beautiful Philips pendant lamp, designed by Louis Kalff. The lamp is in good, clean condition. The photos of the lamp hanging have a slightly reddish cast due to the lighting. The lamp is also completely white inside. I've added an additional photo of the lamp; this photo better represents the actual lamp. Approx. 26.5 cm high Approx. 12 cm wide Note: We do not ship to the US or Canada. Louis Kalff was a Dutch designer known for his contributions to the renowned Dutch lighting company Philips. Born in 1897, Kalff was a versatile designer who worked in various fields, including industrial design, graphic design, and interior design. He joined Philips in the 1920s and played a key role in shaping the company's design direction. During his tenure at Philips, Kalff became known for his innovative and influential lighting designs. He was particularly known for his work on wall lamps, pendant lamps, and desk lamps, which became popular in the 1960s and beyond. Kalff's designs were characterized by clean lines, a modern aesthetic, and a focus on functionality and user-friendliness. One of Kalff's notable contributions to Philips' lighting design was the "Philite" material, a type of plastic developed by Philips for lighting fixtures. This material was often incorporated into Kalff's designs, allowing for unique shapes, colors, and textures in the fixtures. In the 1960s, Philips produced a wide range of wall lamps, pendant lamps, and desk lamps that were popular at the time. These designs had a modern and minimalist aesthetic, emphasizing clean lines, geometric shapes, and innovative use of materials. Many of these lamps were designed for residential, office, and public spaces and were sought after for their functional yet stylish design. Various materials were used in the production of these lamps, including metal, plastic, and glass, often combined in unique and innovative ways. Philips was known for its high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail in the production of these lighting fixtures, resulting in durable and visually appealing products. Many of these Philips lamps from the 1960s are now considered iconic and collectible, with Louis Kalff's designs particularly sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts. Kalff's work for Philips has had a lasting influence on the lighting industry, and his innovative designs continue to inspire contemporary lighting design.
