At the age of 27, Kalff wrote a letter to Anton Philips, the president of Philips & Co. believing that the company's advertising could be improved. Shortly after he was hired, he was put in charge of the commercial and artistic propaganda departments. With his designs for posters and packaging, Kalff rapidly modernized Philips' image. Five years later he started a new lighting consultancy department and became responsible for the lighting of world exhibitions in Barcelona, and later Antwerp, Brussels, and Paris. In addition to the Philips logo, he designed other famous advertising posters (Calvé, PTT, Holland Radio), book covers, desk lamps, and even some buildings. After World War II, he became art director at Philips and worked with Le Corbusier and the composer Edgar Varèse. After his retirement in the 1960s, he remained active as a consultant for Philips and was involved in the construction of the Evoluon building in Eindhoven. The shape of this building is reflected in many lamps he designed. Louis Kalff died in 1976. Coveted vintage Louis Kalff lamp in very good condition. Almost 70 years old but in perfect condition and still looks modern and contemporary because of its Scandinavian looks. Opaline glass provides beautiful diffused lighting.
