Petronella Humfeld (1903–2001) was a Dutch painter known for her lively and imaginative works, in which she often combined elements of realism and fantasy. Although less known to the general public, her work is appreciated for the harmony and spiritual motivation it conveys. Biography and Education Background: She was born in Amsterdam as the fourth of five daughters. Her father was a successful banker and her mother was a piano teacher. Musical Education: Initially, Petronella received a musical education in piano and cello primarily from her mother, but she ultimately chose visual arts against her parents' wishes. Education: In 1931, she completed her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. Parisian Influence: In 1928, she lived and worked in Paris for six months to broaden her horizons and become acquainted with other art movements. In the 1960s, she also held various solo exhibitions there, including at Galerie de la Tournelle. Artistic Style and Development Her style changed several times throughout her life: Early Period: At the beginning of the 1950s, she distanced herself from her academic training. After a period of war and illness, she began painting in a more austere and simpler style, seeking a spiritual and natural balance. Later Style: Her later work is described as modern-impressionistic, often with a colorful and lively character. Recognition: In 1959, she was appointed an honorary member of the artists' association Arti et Industriae (AEI). This beautiful still life by Petronella Humfeld captures the essence of the modern Impressionist style of the 1960s. The vibrant colors and textures bring a sense of dynamism and life to any room where it is displayed. - The composition depicts an elegant vase with flowers and a bowl of fruit, painted with a loose brushstroke characteristic of the Impressionist movement. - The use of bold colors such as yellow and green creates a lively contrast against the subtle background. - The work is executed on canvas, which emphasizes the depth and texture of the brushstrokes. This painting is an ideal addition for lovers of modern art and adds a touch of historical charm to your interior. Contact us today for more information.
