Patinated Cognac Brown Leather Sculptural Landscape Sofa Element
Designed by Ubald Klug in 1973 for the Swiss manufacturer De Sede, the DS 1025 Terrazza is one of the most iconic sculptural seating concepts of the 1970s. Inspired by the dramatic topography of alpine landscapes, Klug conceived this design as a terraced formation resembling the contours of mountains and hills. The result is a bold architectural object that functions simultaneously as seating and as a striking spatial sculpture.
The composition is formed by a sequence of cascading, waterfall like leather volumes that gradually taper in layered steps. This particular element displays a beautifully balanced proportion and an exceptionally rich patinated cognac brown leather. The natural aging of the leather has developed a deep tonal variation and softness that can only occur after decades of careful use, giving the piece an extraordinary visual warmth and character.
Condition is very good for its age. The original De Sede leather displays an exceptional natural patina that collectors highly appreciate. Finding Terrazza elements in such original condition and in this desirable brown/cognac tone has become increasingly rare. The sculptural lines remain crisp while the leather has matured gracefully, enhancing the landscape character of the design.
Originally founded as a saddler’s workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland, De Sede became internationally renowned for transforming the highest quality leather into luxury seating furniture.
