This very rare "Scissor" chair was designed by Dutch architect Jan van Grunsven in 1959 and produced by UMS/Pastoe in Utrecht. Van Grunsven worked at the Gerrit Rietveld architectural firm in the 1950s-60s. He designed only a few pieces of furniture. This modernist low model was called FB 18 and was part of Pastoe's "Combex" series. The structure of the chair is made of laminated layers of plywood.
The chair is in good condition and has been completely reupholstered and veneered. Authentic details have been spared.
This is a chair that has been reupholstered and veneered. Besides the usual marks, there are old staple holes visible on the underside as well as a groove in the underside.
