Product description
An extremely rare and majestic bookcase by Aldo Tura, made in Milan around 1960 and entirely clad in natural parchment stained dark tobacco with a mirror-like finish. A work of exceptional quality and rarity, it represents one of the most accomplished expressions of Tura's poetics, where the natural material is sublimated in an architectural language of extraordinary elegance and rigor. The structure, handcrafted to measure, is composed of three vertical uprights that harmoniously punctuate the horizontal shelves, creating a perfect balance between solids and voids, light and material. The lower section is closed by two doors with cylindrical brass handles, while the upper section, entirely open, offers ample storage surfaces ideal for books, objects, and ceramics. Brown-stained parchment, an iconic material in Aldo Tura's universe, completely covers the entire structure: a continuous blanket of warm, vibrant, and irregular hues that change with the light and reveal the craftsmanship and technical complexity of the cladding. The hand-polished surface, mirrored to a mirror-like effect, lends depth and an aura of refined opulence, making every detail unique and unrepeatable. This bookcase combines the sensuality of the natural material, the precision of a cabinetmaker, and the sculptural vision of furniture typical of the Milanese designer, who conceives furniture as domestic architecture, a sculptural space, and a pictorial surface at the same time. The work is part of Tura's most mature phase, when the designer experimented with parchment on a large scale as a visual and tactile language, pushing the boundaries between design and decorative art. A museum-quality rarity, rarely found in this size and condition, it demonstrates Aldo Tura's ability to combine modernist rigor and material sensuality, creating an object that transcends function and becomes pure aesthetic expression. Excellent condition with minor signs of aging consistent with its age and authenticity.
