For their first generation of chairs in the 60s, Panton produced a cold-pressed model using fiberglass-reinforced polyester.
For the first time, an entire chair was designed in one piece, without any legs.
It became known as the free-swinger.
The first model, rather heavy and requiring a great deal of finishing work, was later improved and adapted for industrial production using thermoplastic polystyrene, considerably reducing the cost.
