Product description
The Pamplona armchairs were designed by Augusto Savini for the Italian manufacturer Pozzi in 1965 and are among the most iconic armchairs of Italian Modernism. Their form is based on a distinctive structure, in which the front legs flow smoothly into the wide armrests, creating a single, uninterrupted line. This design looks equally good from any angle, with wood and metal details being an integral part of the composition. The model also appeared in advertisements for Domus magazine in the late 1960s, confirming its place in the history of Italian design. The armchairs are made of stained ash wood with a lacquered finish and upholstered in dark brown genuine leather. One armchair is in very good condition with minimal signs of use in the form of minor scratches. The other two show more noticeable signs of use, with more severe scratches and abrasions on the tops of the armrests and the leg of one armchair, and a dent in the leather upholstery of another. The Pamplona represents the Italian mid-century modern movement, where functionality meets a bold approach to form. Distinctive arched armrests, subtly rounded edges, and visible metal connectors make these armchairs stand out from other 1960s designs. They are comfortable, solidly constructed, and, thanks to their proportions, they work perfectly as both desk chairs and as a standalone accent in a living room or office. Augusto Savini was an Italian designer associated with the heyday of Italian design in the 1960s. In his designs, he placed great emphasis on construction and detail, creating furniture with a distinctive, architectural form. The Pamplona remains his most recognizable design and is still sought after by collectors of Italian design. Pozzi is an Italian furniture manufacturer that collaborated with leading modernist designers in the 1960s. Pozzi furniture is valued for its high-quality workmanship, carefully selected materials, and the combination of elegance and functionality typical of Italian design.
