Pair of magnificent large candlesticks with celestial, anthropomorphic, solar, and lunar motifs, crafted from repoussé or cast metal. One candlestick is adorned with a radiant sun with a smiling face, the other with a smiling crescent moon. Vintage mid-century production from the 1950s-1970s, European, made of solid 95% pewter, marked on the base. Clearly handcrafted and of very high quality; rare pieces. Thick pewter with fine details. They evoke a "witchy" feel, reminiscent of a witch's cabinet or astrology.
Maximum height: 29.5 cm; base diameter: approximately 9 cm; moon width: 6 cm; sun width: 9 cm; candle opening diameter: 2.3 cm. Very good overall condition, with a light, even patina, a few small spots and discreet marks consistent with age, and some minor scratches. Approximately 550-600 grams each.
