Product description
Brass Fire DogsA pair of rare British brass fire dogs by Benham and Froud, dating from the late Victorian and 19th century Aesthetic movement.Available for purchase is a pair of 19th century, late Victorian brass grisou made by London metalworkers Benham and Froud, whose design is attributed to Dr. Christopher Dresser. The pair represents an unusual, rare and sought-after design. Benham and Froud marked the grisou with their signature orb on the underside of each vertical. The grisou consist of finely turned crossbars that are larger in diameter than the lower bars and are set between uprights with spherical tops, mounted on curved legs.Dr. Dresser likely designed these grisoutiers, as his style, combined with the period, matches his design characteristics. Dr. Dresser was a British designer and key player in the aesthetic movement, a fundamental contributor to the Anglo-Japanese style and the British Art Nouveau movement between 1850 and 1882.Dimensions:12H x 19W x 12D Condition:Very good original condition.
