Magnificent pair of covered stoneware pots, thrown by Studio Poterie, likely vintage French from the 1980s-90s. Each pot features a beautiful layering of glazes in shades of brown, moss green and mint, black and rust, with areas and speckles of brilliant copper and small crystals in the glaze that reflect the light. Superb craftsmanship, exquisite technique, and a splendid glaze with vitrified drips reminiscent of certain Japanese ceramics like Takatori. The form is more Western yet modern with Asian influences. The lids, thrown separately, have stepped knobs in mottled, unglazed light brown stoneware, as do the tall bases with visible wheel throws. Incised signatures under the bases, a studio monogram “LA” (?) to be identified, confirming production by a pottery studio of this period.
Approximately 18-19 cm maximum height with lids, approximately 15-15.5 cm maximum diameter. Both are in very good overall condition, with a dense and clean glaze and only a few fine, minor scratches from use. Approximately 800g each. These are unique pieces due to their glaze.
