An exceptionally rare pair of Dutch modernist armchairs designed by Paul Schuitema and produced by Fana Metaal, Rotterdam, in the 1950s. These chairs embody the radical clarity and functional elegance that define early post-war European modernism.
This particular set is distinguished by its continuous tubular steel back construction, a highly uncommon and seldom-seen variant. The uninterrupted flow of the chromed steel tube creates a refined linear rhythm, emphasizing movement, balance, and industrial precision. The contrast between the cool metal frame, warm upholstered seat and backrest, and original Bakelite armrests results in a composition that is both sculptural and highly functional.
The olove soft green upholstery enhances the architectural form while adding a subtle mid-century colour accent, making these chairs suitable for both residential and curated design interiors.
Rare Edition
This pair features a trare continuous tube backres, a design detail that significantly elevates its collectability and places it among the more exceptional examples of Schuitema’s furniture designs.
