Pair of bronze cups decorated in the antique style with mythological subjects.
The cup on the left is decorated with the Triumph of Virtue, while the one on the right is decorated with Neptune and Amphitrite, echoing the theme of the Neptune Basin at the Palace of Versailles.
Here, the rarity lies in finding a complete pair, whereas the Triumph of Virtue is sometimes available. The Neptune and Amphitrite motif is extremely rare. As for finding two of the same size, that's mission impossible! But I offer you this opportunity with this pair.
They date from the Second Empire period.
They are in excellent condition. No dents, deformation, or corrosion; the patina has been preserved, which is rare. I would just point out a darkening stain of dirt, approximately 1.9 cm in diameter, probably from food residue, which can be seen in the center of the cup on the left (see photo 4). It is certainly possible to remove it without affecting the patina.
The decoration on the feet and pedestals is very elaborate (photos 13 to 18), featuring rams' heads, goddesses (Leda), and heroes.
The decoration of mythological scenes is also magnificent (photos 3 to 12), a fine example of bronze work.
Each cup weighs approximately 1150 grams.
The height is 15.3 cm, and the diameter of the bowls is 18 cm.
Suitably packaged for shipping.
