This exceptional pair of lounge armchairs represents a landmark of postwar Eastern European design, created by the celebrated duo Antonín Kropáček and Karel Kozelka. Originally designed in 1944 for Interier Praha, this model (often designated as the "Inka" or model "K") won a prestigious silver medal at the Milan Triennale in 1946 and remained highly popular through production into the 1960s. The chairs are famed for their striking curvilinear bentwood frames and floating, ergonomic seat shells.
The minimalist yet organic architecture of these chairs delivers a strong graphic footprint, making them highly desirable statement pieces for a mid-century modern living room, reading alcove, or executive space.
Condition and Character
The pair is preserved in a beautifully balanced vintage state, blending recent upholstery work with an authentic frame patina.
Upholstery: The loose seat and back cushions have been reupholstered by the previous owner in a textured, contemporary light fabric that complements the wood tones cleanly.
Frame Finish: The sculptural bentwood frames were not refurbished during the textile update. They retain their original vintage finish, showcasing an honest patina, minor edge scuffs, and light surface wear accumulated over decades.
