Product description
Pair of Karl Hagenauer Wiener Werkstätte gilt brass candelabras 1930 A true collector's item for design enthusiasts at the cutting edge of design innovation in its era! A fusion of the Art Deco period and the futuristic vision that would become Midcentury Modern, Karl Hagenauer brought his prophetic vision of design to life! First exhibited at the Milan Triennale in 1930, this pair of "Baum" (German for "tree") candelabra won him a gold medal, and deservedly so! Such was its success that it was made to order only. A nickel-silver version of this candelabra is also available. Its carefully welded tubular design is only possible with sophisticated, detail-oriented welders and bronziers! The finely polished walls reveal no flaws or excesses, leaving only the essential, minimalist structure of the "baum/arbre". Imagine the surprise and amazement on the faces of visitors to the show in 1930, a pivotal period in Europe between political crisis and the Roaring Twenties, when artists were revealing their genius and their wildest design desires... To see such a pure, minimalist work of its time was genius... Or madness. This four-armed folly supports four flat, round wicks, ready to hold candles, but their design alone is enough as an object d'art, for the pleasure of the eye. Today, restored to their former glory, the candlesticks are still in place. Minimal wear remains, but their polish and condition are perfect for collectors.
