This iconic pair of "Type C" armchairs was designed by the visionary architect and designer Jindřich Halabala in the 1930s. As a leading figure in Czechoslovak design, Halabala’s work for the UP Závody factory merged the elegance of the Art Deco movement with industrial production methods. These chairs are renowned for their signature curved bentwood armrests, which represent the pinnacle of Halabala's innovative approach to furniture geometry.
The chairs are currently offered as a stable and comfortable base for refurbishment. While the frames remain structurally sound, one armchair features a surface crack on the wooden arm—please see photos for detailed views of the frames and condition. This offers a fantastic opportunity for a restorer to refinish the wood and reupholster the chairs in a textile of their choosing.
These armchairs fit beautifully into an Art Deco home, a mid-century interior, or a designer office seeking a historic, sculptural statement piece.
