Product description
A richly decorated pair of Japanese Satsuma-style ceramic vases, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. These pieces exemplify the intricate craftsmanship and distinctive aesthetic of export ceramics from this era, characterised by their elaborate figural scenes and textured surfaces. Crafted from fine ceramic, both vases are hand-painted with continuous scenes depicting figures in ceremonial dress, surrounded by floral motifs and refined gold-coloured accents. Raised moriage details add texture and depth to the decoration, a technique characteristic of Satsuma-style ceramics from this period. The sculpted handles are incorporated into the overall design, enhancing the strong decorative and sculptural character of the pieces. Japanese signatures are present on the undersides, consistent with studio and export ceramics made around 1900. Each vase measures approximately 24 centimetres in height and 16 centimetres in width.
