This iconic pair of H-410 armchairs was designed by the visionary architect and furniture designer Jindřich Halabala during the 1930s for the prominent UP Závody factory. A definitive name in 20th-century Czechoslovak design, Halabala is celebrated for his ability to unify the refined, sweeping lines of the Art Deco movement with the functional requirements of mass industrial production. These chairs are recognized globally by their signature fluid, bentwood armrests, which stand as a masterclass in mid-war structural geometry.
The chairs are currently offered as a solid base for refurbishment. While the wooden frames remain structurally solid, the seating requires new webbing and the springs need to be retightened. One of the armrests features a nail penetration, which—along with the necessary upholstery work—is easily fixable by a skilled restorer. Please see photos for detailed views of the frames and the specified areas for restoration.
These pieces fit seamlessly into an Art Deco home, a mid-century interior, or a designer office requiring a unique, sculptural focal point.
