Magnificent and rare/unique pair of stylized rooster candlesticks in glazed ceramic, signed A.G. Roger 48 under the base (signature to be identified), vintage workshop piece from 1948. A beautiful post-war production with a strong Art Deco aesthetic. The bodies are decorated with incised feathers highlighted with hand-painted gilding, and the tails are large, spiraled volutes serving as handles. One piece is burgundy red with gilt decoration, the other cobalt blue, also highlighted with gold. Very high-quality craftsmanship, reminiscent of Vallauris pieces from that period.
Height 19cm, length 17.5cm, width 11cm, candle opening diameter approximately 2cm. In very good used condition. There is a small, discreet chip in the glaze on one of the eyes of the red rooster and three very small chips inside the opening of the blue candlestick. Approximately 800-900g each.
