A pair of authentic original steel engravings from 1858 and 1860, designed by the renowned illustrator Anaïs Toudouze (1822–1899) and engraved by the master Jules Desjardins. Each vintage print is a unique collector's item: after the design was printed onto the steel, the coloring was done entirely by hand in the workshop. Original steel engravings from the Second Empire (Napoleon III), entirely hand-colored. Fine watercolor applied with a brush, mineral pigments, and gum arabic create exceptional brilliance (intense ultramarine blue, deep green). No two hand-painted pieces are identical. Designed by Anaïs Toudouze, engraved by Jules Desjardins in the plate. Dimensions: 2 x 38 x 30 cm Paper in exceptional condition for its age, extremely clean, without foxing, stains, or soiling. Presented under glass in two elegant, identical Interwar period frames (1920s-1930s) with passe-partouts. Ready to hang.
