A striking pair of fully restored bedside tables from Czechoslovakia, dating from the transitional period between late Art Deco and early Modernism. The tables are attributed to UP Závody, although no original manufacturer’s label has survived. Their clean cubic form reflects the emerging Modernist aesthetic, while the beautifully figured warm walnut veneer of the doors retains the luxurious character of late Art Deco design. The tables were found in poor condition and have been completely restored. The original walnut veneer on the doors was carefully preserved and refinished, while the top and bottom were finished in high-gloss black lacquer. The sides are in the original shade of the wood. The wooden handles are period vintage replacements, carefully selected to complement the design. A rare and visually distinctive pair combining rich Czechoslovak cabinetmaking with bold, architectural simplicity.
