This set of 2 lounge chairs was designed in the 1960s by the Danish designer Sven Ellekaer for the Dutch furniture manufacturer Coja Culemborg. The collaboration characteristically combines the design language of Scandinavian Modern with the high-quality Dutch furniture production of that era. Particularly appealing is the interplay of the openly constructed wooden frame with the generous, softly upholstered leather cushions. The encircling horizontal wooden elements give the chairs their striking architectural structure and make them look extremely attractive from the side and back. Small dark leather details on the lower frame echo the upholstery material and emphasize the handcrafted character of the design. The offered set of 2 is in excellent condition. The dark brown leather is very well maintained and shows only a subtle, age-appropriate patina that underlines the authentic vintage character of the chairs. The wooden frames are also in exceptionally beautiful condition. The webbing of both chairs has recently been completely replaced, ensuring that the seats are reliably supported again without changing the character with the leather details in the frame. Sven Ellekaer is one of the interesting representatives of Danish furniture design of the post-war period. His works follow the basic ideas of Scandinavian Modern: clear constructions, functional design, and a strong emphasis on natural materials. Coja Culemborg was a Dutch manufacturer of high-quality seating furniture based in Culemborg and collaborated with various international designers. Especially Sven Ellekaer's designs are among the sought-after vintage works of the company today.
