Geometric and rigorous, the “Cnosso” ceiling lamps designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Artemide in the 1960s fully reflect the structural and formal research that defined Italian design of the period, where light became an architectural element integrated into space.
The opaline plastic diffuser, softly curved and gently domed, is enclosed within an essential structure that emphasizes its volumetric purity. The square form with rounded edges balances geometric precision with sculptural softness, while the satin surface allows for an even and enveloping light diffusion.
Mangiarotti, known for his rational and constructive approach, conceived an object that combines technical simplicity with expressive strength. The fixture does not dominate the space but shapes it through a compact luminous presence, suitable for both ceiling and wall installation.
