Two profiles carved from dark wood with ebony reflections, depicting a man and a woman facing each other. Each piece is carefully carved from the solid wood, the braided and wavy hair rendered with great finesse. The facial features – the nose, lips, and chin – are sculpted with precision and expressiveness. The woman wears a silver-tone metal hoop earring. The man wears an earring made of bone or ivory, in the shape of a horizontal bar. Both pieces are signed Jan Bar on the reverse, with an integrated wall hanging system. Quality craftsmanship, in the tradition of 1970s decorative African sculpture. Good overall condition, normal wear consistent with age. Hung facing each other on a white or stone wall, these two heads create a silent and powerful dialogue.
