The listed price is for both chairs.
A charming pair of antique bentwood chairs dating from approximately the 1930s–1950s. The manufacturer is unknown, but the chairs are believed to be of Austrian origin.
The sturdy bent beechwood frames have been carefully restored and finished with natural oil, highlighting the warm tones and beautiful grain of the wood.
There is no manufacturer’s stamp or label on the underside, so we cannot attribute the chairs to a specific maker.
Bentwood furniture became enormously popular throughout Europe following the success of Thonet, the pioneer of industrial bentwood furniture production. After Thonet’s patents expired, numerous manufacturers across Europe adopted and further developed similar techniques, producing bentwood furniture in countries including Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, and others.
