Angèle van den Thillart (Den Bosch, 1952)
Angèle draws inspiration from people. Influences from the classics are still palpable, particularly in her choice of subjects: torsos, portraits, and feet. Her work is figurative, yet her working method—the focus on detail—gives it an abstract appearance. It is precisely by examining that detail closely that you experience the whole. "Angèle van den Thillart paints people, torsos, and portraits. In her portraits, she reveals not only how fragile a person is, but also how much strength they radiate. The outward meaning is not important, but the underlying feelings are. Her work defies a cursory glance; we must take our time to feel what has been painted away through the layers." Gerrit Bosch, Curator, Province of North Holland.
A beautiful painting with a beautifully captured expression. One slight dent is worth mentioning. Barely noticeable, and therefore impossible to capture in detail in a photo.
