A black lacquered sheet metal glass cooler (also called a glass chiller) from the Restoration period (circa 1820-1830). This refined tableware was once used to chill glasses in ice water during formal dinners. It can also be used as a cachepot or centerpiece.
The neck is cut into regular scallops, designed to suspend glasses by their stems.
Painting: A very fine, hand-painted floral decoration. It features friezes of blooming flowers and acanthus leaf scrolls in shades of gold, ochre, and sienna rose.
Accessories: Equipped with its two original gilt metal side handles for easy carrying.
CONDITION: The exterior is superb with well-preserved paint. The interior shows significant oxidation, which is quite normal for a piece that has contained water and ice over the centuries.
Key advantage: Although corroded internally, this cooler has been tested and is perfectly watertight. It can therefore be used for its original purpose or as a floral centerpiece without fear of leaks.
