Pair of antique spice jars Villeroy & Boch Wallerfangen circa 1900
Product description:
A decorative pair of antique spice jars by Villeroy & Boch from the historic Wallerfangen factory: one jar for anise and one for bay leaf.
The two square ceramic jars feature black lettering and a stylized dark red floral decor. On the underside of each is the historic Villeroy & Boch Wallerfangen Mercury mark and the number 1001. This mark was used between 1874 and 1909; the jars can therefore be dated to around 1900.
Both jars have old, original wooden lids with black knobs.
The ceramic is in good condition, commensurate with its age. No cracks or major chips are visible. There are age-related discolorations and signs of wear on the base rim and glaze.
The wooden lids show clear authentic signs of age: edge abrasion, minor imperfections, cracks, and localized detachments or deformations of the wood. The black knobs also show signs of wear. Please refer to the detailed photos.
Dimensions per jar:
Width and depth: approx. 6.5 × 6.5 cm
Height without lid: approx. 8 cm
Height with lid: approx. 11 cm
Weight: approx. 162 g per jar
The complete pair "Anise" and "Bay Leaf" including both wooden lids is offered.
Due to their age, the jars are particularly suitable today as collector's items and Decorative Objects for a historic kitchen, a spice rack, or a country house interior. Current suitability for food has not been tested.
