The Chapel of Notre-Dame de la Route Blanche stands out against a sky of clear clouds, its beige stone walls and golden-brown roof bathed in a soft light. The square bell tower, topped with a cross, rises to the left of the composition. At the foot of the bell tower, a nun in a white habit. In the sky, an apparition of the Virgin in a white, veiled gown, with outstretched arms, and the arched inscription N.D. DE LA ROUTE BLANCHE. In the background, the hills of Ain and, in the distance, the snowy silhouette of Mont-Blanc. This original gouache was created in 1950, signed in the lower right and dated the same year. It depicts the chapel of Ségny (Ain), a commune located on the Swiss border, near Ferney-Voltaire and Geneva. It is a rare iconographic document of this Marian sanctuary in Ain, as well as a quality work of personal devotion. The artist chose to present it in a repoussé gilt metal frame with floral and festooned decoration, in the Belle Époque style, dating from the late 19th century. This frame, older than the work itself, belonged to the artist or had been passed down in their family. The choice of this old and precious frame for framing a work of personal devotion testifies to the artist's attachment to this representation. The period braided cord is preserved. The Lyon framer S. Dubois, 11 Grande Rue de Vaise, whose label is on the back, presumably performed the glazing. Framed dimensions: approximately 28 x 37 cm. Ready to hang.
