A beautiful and rare piece of mid-century design history. This original 'Taureau' (Taurus) footstool was designed in the 1950s by the famous French designer Pierre Guariche for the Belgian manufacturer Meurop. What makes this piece unique is the exceptionally beautiful condition of the top. While the black faux leather on most stools is torn or worn after decades of intensive use, the top of this example remains completely undamaged, sleek and black, albeit with some dull spots. An absolute eye-catcher for the vintage design enthusiast.
The top and upholstery are in a rare, beautiful, pristine condition. The metal tubular frame features the original industrial X-weld seam. On the underside, the tubular brackets on one side have been replaced for extra strength (see photo). A beautiful icon that fits perfectly in a modern, vintage, or industrial interior.
