This colorful, hand-carved and hand-painted horse was made under the brand name Nils Olsson in Sweden. It is decorated with bright details, painted on an orange-red base color. I am not sure how old this specific horse is; it shows some wear and scratches, but I estimate that it was made around the 1980s.
Nils Olsson (1913-1991) was a legendary Swedish woodcarver and entrepreneur who co-founded Nils Olsson Dalahästar (Nils Olsson Hemslöjd) in 1928. Together with his brother Jannes, he helped transform the traditional Dala horse from a local village pastime into a globally recognized symbol of Sweden. The Nils Olsson workshop is still active in Nusnäs.
PLEASE NOTE: the horse has some small scratches in the paint and the front of the ears is damaged (the paint has definitely come off here), see the photos for details. Height: 14 centimeters
Width: 4 centimeters
Length: 12 centimeters
