A beautiful and authentic Japanese mizuya-dansu (kitchen cabinet), made in Japan around 1900–1925.
This type of cabinet was traditionally used for storing tableware and kitchen utensils and is recognizable by its lattice doors (koshi), solid wood construction, and hand-forged metal fittings.
The cabinet is entirely handmade using various types of wood:
hardwood for the visible parts and softer wood (e.g., cedar/paulownia) for the drawers and interior. The back panel and drawer construction are original and show traditional Japanese wood joints. No veneer or plywood is used.
The cabinet is in good, original condition with a beautiful, warm patina and normal signs of wear consistent with its age. No modern restorations have been carried out.
An older commercial document referring to a sale through Korea accompanies the cabinet. This document is not an official antique certificate and is provided solely as an accompanying document. The provenance and dating of the cabinet are based on its construction, materials, and stylistic features.
A characterful and rare piece of furniture that fits perfectly in a Japandi, wabi-sabi, or eclectic interior.
