China has a long and outstanding carpet tradition. The art of carpet making here dates back to the 15th century. The designs and patterns were originally inspired by Chinese porcelain, landscapes, majestic dragons and other religious symbols. The patterns in China rugs are generally cut in relief, which gives them the typical three-dimensional appearance for which they are famous. China rugs are made of soft wool and have a rather thick and dense pile. They are very strong and robust and at the same time very soft and pleasant to walk on. In China, there are also more exclusive silk carpets that are knotted entirely from silk. These rugs are extremely rare on the market and sometimes even contain elements of pure gold thread. Chinese silk carpets have a very high knot density and are largely inspired by patterns from ancient Persian carpet art.
