Product description
This original Danish studio ceramic bowl from the "Erika" series is an authentic piece of design history, designed by Noomi Backhausen and Poul Brandborg for Søholm. With its characteristic shape and striking organic pattern, model 328 perfectly captures the creative spirit of Scandinavian design from this era. Original Danish mid-century ceramic bowl from the "Erika" series, designed by the renowned Danish designer Noomi Backhausen for the long-established Søholm Stentøj workshop on Bornholm. Stamped model 328. Excellent condition. Provenance & Period: Made in Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm, circa 1970s. Design & Features: The distinctive, earthy, and sandy pattern with blue-gray undertones is typical of Backhausen's Brutalist-inspired studio ceramics of that period. The designs (model numbers such as 3186 or 3218) were often created in collaboration with Poul Brandborg. Use: The robust stoneware bowl (Stentøj) is now a sought-after collector's item, used as a fruit bowl, or even as a decorative wall plate. Details of the base mark: Imprint: The typical, arched SØHOLM stamp is visible in the upper area. Below it are the inscriptions BORNHOLM and DENMARK. Model number: On the left side, the three-digit model number "328" is stamped into the clay, which identifies the specific design object (e.g., a particular vase shape or bowl) within the series. The "Erika" series (often also spelled "Erica") was created in the 1970s and is among Søholm's most sought-after studio ceramic classics. Design duo: While the magnificent, often floral or geometric glazes were designed by Noomi Backhausen, the underlying forms were mostly created by her colleague Poul Brandborg. Special feature: Each piece in this series, made of high-quality Bornholm clay, impresses with its thick, three-dimensional glaze effects and earthy tones. ♡♡♡ As this is a private sale of a vintage item, the sale is final and without warranty or return policy.
