Product description
Antique M.Z. Austria Porcelain Cabaret Dish (c. 1891-1909, Victorian/Belle Époque Periods) - 24k Gold Gilt Rim An exquisite piece of luxurious tableware from the late Victorian and Belle Époque periods: a lobed relish platter or serving dish for hors d'oeuvres in the "Cabaret" style, handcrafted between 1891 and 1909 by the renowned Central European manufacturer Moritz Zdekauer (M.Z. Austria) in their prestigious workshops in Altrohlau (Austro-Hungarian Empire). This elegant collector's item is distinguished by its lobed body of the finest white hard-paste porcelain and its iconic raised central carrying handle in the shape of a fork. This unique design allowed guests at the refined banquets of the era to easily lift the tray to pass appetizers from one guest to another without touching the glaze or the food. It features a sophisticated perimeter decoration consisting of a crimson or burgundy border, richly framed by hand-applied geometric fretwork and filigree in solid gold. On the reverse of the base, the official hallmark of authenticity is perfectly preserved and imprinted beneath the glaze: the crowned Imperial Double-Headed Eagle with the initials M.Z. and the origin "AUSTRIA." This marking allows for its precise dating to 1891, based on the regulations of the McKinley Tariff Act for international trade. A highly sophisticated piece, ideal for collectors of historical European porcelain or as a distinguished centerpiece. Condition: Excellent. The porcelain is structurally flawless, without chips, nicks, cracks, or restorations. The gold border retains a magnificent luster. When held up to the light, the white enamel background shows slight, expected surface scratches from the use of period cutlery, as well as a couple of subtle original firing marks in the clay (factory iron marks), which honestly guarantee its centuries-old artisanal authenticity. Piece dimensions: • Total length: 28.5 cm • Maximum width: 19 cm • Height (to the rim): 4 cm
