Superb oil painting on panel from the French Impressionist/Post-Impressionist period, dating from the time of its frame (1910-1930) with a strong probability of being executed in the late 19th century. The painting depicts a bucolic view very characteristic of the Loing Valley region (probably a scene inspired by Moret-sur-Loing or its surroundings): a peaceful stream in the foreground with a moored boat, a dirt path leading to an authentic thatched cottage, a small old stone bridge spanning the river, and traditional haystacks on the horizon. Signature: A signature is present in the lower right corner of the work (currently illegible/needs deciphering). Inscription on the back: The reverse of the frame retains traces of a long, old inscription, now unfortunately erased by time, attesting to the history and provenance of this piece. The work is distinguished by a A highly textured impasto technique, applied forcefully with a palette knife or stiff brush. This thickness of paint creates a striking relief and beautifully catches the natural light, giving a superb vibrancy to the trees, water, and sky. The Frame (Century 1910-1930): The painting is presented in its magnificent Art Deco style frame (1910-1930) of solid, gilded wood, entirely carved. The stylized motifs at the corners and in the center testify to the very fine craftsmanship of this period.
