Located in Baden-Württemberg, on the German shore of Lake Constance, Friedrichshafen is a city whose history is intimately linked to travel. Renowned for being the birthplace of the famous Zeppelin airships, it is also one of the gateways to Lake Constance (Bodensee), where Germany, Switzerland, and Austria meet. Since the mid-20th century, travelers readily brought back objects evoking the landscapes, traditions, and folklore of this region. This antique liqueur decanter is fully in keeping with this tradition. Made from molded and enameled ceramic, one side features a young couple dressed in traditional costume, a symbol of popular festivals and customs of southern Germany. The other side reveals a view of Friedrichshafen, recognizable by its lakeside promenade and emblematic buildings, surrounded by a rich wreath of embossed flowers. The particularly meticulous decoration combines cobalt blue, white, red, green, and yellow enamels, applied to a generous relief that attests to the craftsmanship of German workshops of that period. Its substantial original stopper, composed of a cork topped with a cobalt blue ceramic finial, harmoniously completes the set. Originally intended to hold a liqueur or schnapps, this decanter was both a functional object and a travel souvenir. Displayed in a sideboard or display cabinet, it recalled holidays spent on the shores of Lake Constance and the charm of the region's German towns.
