Oil painting on cardboard depicting the Navigli canals of Milan, created by Eugenio Mantegani in the 1980s. Width 70 cm, height 40 cm including frame. Eugenio Mantegani (Milan, 1929 – Milan, 2005) was an Italian painter, known primarily for his views of Milan, particularly the Duomo and the Navigli canals. His style is characterized by a strong impressionistic influence, featuring rapid and synthetic brushwork and a particular attention to light and atmosphere. Living in Milan, Mantegani dedicated a large part of his artistic output to depicting his city. His academic training at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts influenced his style, while guiding him towards a more personal and impressionistic interpretation of the urban landscape. Glimpses of the Duomo, the Navigli canals, and city streets and squares are often represented with varying atmospheric and light conditions. Scenes of city life, with figures moving against a backdrop of architecture and buildings.
