Daniele Ranzoni (Intra, ) was one of the leading exponents of the Scapigliatura, an Italian artistic and literary movement of the second half of the 19th century that rebelled against academism and bourgeois values, expressing a profound existential unease and a search for a new artistic sensibility. Born in Intra, on Lake Maggiore, Ranzoni showed a strong aptitude for painting from a young age. He trained at the Brera Academy and the Albertina Academy in Turin, coming into contact with the new artistic trends of his time. His work is characterized by a strong emotional charge, an attention to the psychological details of his subjects, and a skillful use of light and shadow. His paintings are often dark and melancholic, reflecting the artist's tormented soul and the spirit of the Scapigliatura. The Scapigliatura, an artistic and literary movement that developed in Lombardy in the second half of the 19th century, was characterized by its rebellion against academic canons, the exaltation of individualism, and a profound sensitivity to social themes. Ranzoni, along with artists such as Tranquillo Cremona, Eugenio Gignous, and Medardo Rosso, was one of the leading exponents of this movement.
