Product description
An innovative design by Finnish-American architect and designer Eero Saarinen from 1956. To date, it was the first chair with a single leg, making it a groundbreaking construction. The Tulip series is now one of the great icons of mid-century design.
Saarinen's most famous architectural works include the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and the TWA Flight Center at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
Eero Saarinen's father, Eliel Saarinen, was director of the Cranbrook Academy, now considered the cradle of modern American design. Here, the paths of Florence Knoll, Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen, and Charles Eames crossed, leading to a close friendship and collaboration between the artists.
