Newly assembled, large-format vase lamp made from a rare original Carstens Tönnishof vase featuring the renowned Ankara design in a typical Carstens Tönnishof vase shape. The terracotta-colored Ankara design shown here is very rare. The series was produced from 1963 onwards: design by Helmut Scholtis.
Brutalist style: the striking design features a speckled glaze and deliberately unglazed, raw ceramic sections. The vase has an archaic and powerful feel – a true statement piece from the 1960s.
The vase is flawless, has a very clear base mark, and is in excellent original condition. Due to its rarity and size, it has a high collector's value.
Dimensions:
– Vase height: 40 cm
– Diameter at widest point: 18 cm
– Lamp height: 72 cm
The lampshade has a diameter of 30 cm and is covered with a high-quality French half-Panama fabric (cotton/linen). The exotic plant motif is highly graphic and harmonizes perfectly with the earthy, textured surface of the vase. The fabric is translucent, creating a warm, atmospheric light.
Conversion to a lamp:
The vase was not damaged – no holes were drilled. The socket is securely anchored inside the vase using a precisely fitting plug-in solution and can be removed without leaving any residue. For stability, the heavy ceramic was weighted with sand, and the opening is neatly and professionally sealed with a brass plate. The entire construction is very solid and designed to support the weight of the vase.
The lamp has a cable and is suitable for permanent use as a generous table or floor lamp. The cable is routed directly into the socket above the ceramic piece.
An exceptional, handcrafted, one-of-a-kind piece for lovers of West German pottery, Brutalist design, and serious collectors.
