Authentic wooden tray with a hand-painted floral bouquet motif on an ochre-beige background.
Scalloped edge with rocaille ornaments and Louis XV-inspired side scrolls.
Typical of the Second Empire (between 1860 and 1880).
The central composition, known as a floral cascade, is subtle and detailed, with gradations and touches of white light in the petals.
The varnish is original and cracked across the entire surface; it has an amber tint and small bubbles characteristic of the shellac used at that time.
On the reverse, four wooden slats forming a rectangle suggest that this tray was part of a lost set: a tilting pedestal table, a sewing table, etc.
The piece is in satisfactory condition for its 150 years of age, but suffers from several chips in the gesso on the back, the rim, and the decorated surface.
